National Panhellenic Conference

What is the National Panhellenic Conference ("NPC")?

Founded in 1902, the National Panhellenic Conference is an organization composed of women’s Greek-letter fraternities.  Each of the member NPC groups is an autonomous social organziation of college women, undergraduates, and alumnae.  The rights and constitutional authority of each of the member groups are very much respected and recognized by NPC.

The National Panhellenic Conference is the voice for the sorority experience.  We drive change to enrich lives on our campuses and communities.  We empower women to develop leadership skills.  We promote philanthropic initiatives and encourage volunteerism.  We support learning and exemplify high academic standards.  We are women defining the sorority experience through a forum for cooperation, operational support and leadership that ensures the long-term relevance and success of our member organizations.

Our Misson
The National Panhellenic Conference exists to promote the values of and to serve as an advocate for its member groups in collaboration with those members, campuses and communities.

Consisting of 26 inter/national sororities/women’s fraternities, NPC is one of the oldest and largest women’s membership organizations representing more than 4 million women at 655 college/university campuses and 4,500 local alumnae chapters in the U.S. and Canada.

NPC functions as a Conference, not as a Convention.  The organization has no legislative powers, except to pass rules for its own administration, and to work toward Unanimous Agreements, Resolutions, and recommendations.  All NPC policies and procedures are based upon mutual agreement.  Care is taken not to encroach on individual sorority programs, policies, etc.  The UNANIMOUS AGREEMENTS, passed by the unanimous vote of the 26 NPC Delegates and ratified by each national sorority through its Inter/National President, are binding upon all members of every NPC member group.

The campus representative of the National Panhellenic Conference is the Panhellenic Association.  This association is administered by the campus’ College Panhellenic Council (CPH).  A CPH can make no rules that conflict with a NPC group’s rights or autonomy.  All rules and procedures established by the CPH are based upon mutual agreement of the Panhellenic member groups on that campus.
